Welcome to my blog...
I will post information regularly to give you information to common questions and theories on exercise, fitness, nutrition and anything else related to health and wellness. Please feel free to send me questions to answer... maybe yours will be posted!
Some feel the faster their heart rate is the more "work" they are doing and they will lose weight more quickly. I highly recommend a heart rate monitor to everyone. It is much easier and more convenient to look at a watch-style heart rate monitor than to palpate your wrist for 15 seconds and way more accurate.
Use the following formula:
Maximum Heart Rate (MHR) = 220 - your age
70-80% of MHR is your fat burning zone
80-90% of MHR is your cardio zone (training for 5k, marathon, etc.)
For a 30 year old the numbers are as follows:
220-30 = 190
190 x .7 = 133
190 x .8 = 152
So, a 30 year old's target range for fat burning is 133-152 (beats per minute)
